Ohio O-tackle sleeper? OSU commit to move to 5-star? Buckeyes not giving up; and more…

Advertisment

Good evening Bucknuts members and visitors! There is plenty going on with Ohio State football recruiting so let’s get started! I will of course have plenty more throughout the night and tomorrow.

1) On Friday night I covered the Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville at Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty game. In particular I was there to (*5*)watch Ohio State linebacker commitment Arvell Reese who was impressive, and I’ll have more on in item No. 2 of this column, and I was also impressed with 2024 Buckeye cornerback target Bryce West. 2024 tight end Damarion Witten is another Glenville guy on the Buckeyes’ radar screen. But another 2024 Glenville player I had been looking forward to seeing was offensive tackle (*13*)Freddie Johnson who Mark Porter talked about during our podcast on Thursday.

(*5*)Johnson is 6-foot-5 to 6-foot-6 and about 300 pounds, down a bit from when he was around 315. He played every offensive snap for the Tarblooders at left-tackle, and played a little defensive tackle when the game started to tighten up in the second half. Johnson isn’t a finished product by any means, but I was impressed with him on Friday night. His best football is ahead of him. Johnson so far has scholarship offers from Kentucky, Toledo, Miami of Ohio and Liberty, but I look for him to blow up in regards to Power 5 offers. Ohio State and Michigan are aware of Johnson and he is someone to keep in mind. I think he is going to pass up some of the other top Ohio 2024 offensive linemen that have more offers at this point.
