Earlier today we reported on Eddie Kingston’s quiet suspension from AEW following a backstage altercation with Sammy Guevara at AEW’s tapings on August 10 in Minnesota.
At this recording, Guevara edited a promo on Kingston to air on the August 12 episode Rampagebut was removed from the show.
In a statement issued to Fightful, Sammy explains exactly what happened after he canceled the Kingston promo. He first says that Eddie never told him what topics he didn’t cover during the promo. As a hoe, Sammy decided to insult Kingston’s body with the idea of Sammy playing an asshole character who gets his comeuppance when they wrestle Sold out.
He shot Kingston for being fat, and it resulted in an explosion backstage-
“So after the promo I go to the back and Eddie rushes out screaming ‘YOU CAN’T CALL ME FAT’ over and over while I try to go down the stairs in the gorilla and do a big scene. People come between us, Eddie tries to look at me and he touches my face a lot, it was weird. And everyone supports everyone. It was unfortunate because that promo was on a taped show and could easily have been edited (which they ended up doing anyway). I know this isn’t the first time Eddie has been aggressive and out of control backstage. I know he had to deal with it with some anger after all. It was all very unnecessary but it is what it is, live and learn I guess for the next thing we go.
It’s worth noting that Kingston has apologized for his unprofessional behavior, but the status of his originally scheduled fight with Guevara is now up in the air.
What do you think of Guevara’s side of the story, Cagesiders?
