Why America banned the book Anh Du?

Anh Do wrote The WeirDo. Little did he know that his famous series of books had been the focus of school protest in the United States. Do’s books are not allowed in schools in one US state. After the student filed a complaint, the seventeen books were eventually returned to the student.

The Daily Mail says comedian and author Anh Do was unaware that American schools had banned his bestselling book series until American students began a campaign to have the ban lifted.

In November 2020, a school board in the US state of Pennsylvania said that the popular WeirDo series was “leaning towards brainwashing content”.

The Central York Board of School Directors said the seventeen books, which were written for young readers and were full of humor, drawings and stories from his time as an immigrant student, were “active by nature”.

Andrew Ling, who works for the author, says the author wasn’t aware of the ban until it was lifted in January due to protests from students who wanted it back. The Australian says so.

“It is great. It is good that young people are able to change it,” Mr. Ling said simply.

Du is a Vietnamese immigrant who came to Australia by boat when he was three years old. His fame as a painter, comedian, author and TV personality has steadily grown thanks to his artistic skills.
